We are taking baby steps to join the AI revolution in health care without surrendering or being left behind.
Currently, we use AI for documenting consultations. We are trialling AI "scribing" or note taking models. These work by listening to the consultation and help with documentation.
An AI model listens through the consultation, and ensures accurate documentation. During a consultation, doctors must juggle the task of giving you (patients) undivided attention as well as record keeping. This is difficult due to the high standards that doctors must meet. With help of AI in note taking, we can be more focused on giving attention to you than giving attention to a computer screen, or typing on a keyboard. So rather than taking the human element away, AI brings the human touch back into the consultation room.
There are 3 parts in AI scribe modelling. First is the physical consultation. Second is a wrapper, or cosmetic data gatherer (eg., providers such as Heidihealth / LyreBird / MBSPro). Third is the background language model (ChatGPT, Google Gemini, etc). The wrapper listens and passes elements of the consultation to the language model, which processes the information to create a summary of the consultation. The wrapper then restructures and formats the summary into a preliminary record, which the doctor then reviews, making any necessary amendments for a finalised record.
The system only captures audio. The wrapper as well as AI language are based in Australia / use only localised versions, complying with subjected Australian privacy laws. The systems comply with required regulatory bodies. We do not store the audio permanently. Only the transcripted, corrected and finalised version is held in the electronic medical record file. We are currently trialing MBSPro and their statement regarding privacy is available here. Further information about a general privacy policy as well as the privacy of this website is available here
