Artificial Intelligence (AI) at The Surgery Kincumber

We're using AI thoughtfully to improve the quality of your care, while keeping your privacy and our clinical standards front and centre.

What are we using AI for?

We currently use AI-powered "scribe" tools to help document consultations. These tools listen during your appointment and assist with note-taking, which your doctor then reviews and finalises.

How does this help you?

Doctors have to balance giving you their full attention with keeping accurate medical records. AI-assisted note-taking reduces the time doctors spend typing or looking at a screen during your consultation, so they can focus more on you. Rather than replacing the human side of medicine, it helps bring it back into the room.

How does it work?

AI scribing involves three parts:

  1. The consultation itself.
  2. A "wrapper" application that captures and organises the conversation. We are currently trialling providers such as Heidi Health, Lyrebird Health and MBSPro.
  3. An underlying language model, such as ChatGPT or Google Gemini, that processes the captured information into a draft summary.

The wrapper structures this draft into a preliminary clinical note, which your doctor reviews, edits and finalises before it becomes part of your medical record.

What about your privacy?

  • Only audio is captured during the consultation, not video or images.
  • The tools we use are Australian-based, or use Australian-hosted/localised versions, and comply with applicable Australian privacy law and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Audio recordings are not stored permanently. Only the reviewed, finalised summary is kept in your electronic medical record.
  • We are currently trialling MBSPro. Their patient consent and privacy statement is available here.
  • For more on how we handle your information generally, see our Privacy Policy.
